“Music has a wonderful ability to capture the mind, exhilarate the body, and take the listener on a journey.
I want my artwork to do the exact same.”
Irish artist Paul Delaney was born in Cork in 1983. He graduated in 2006 with an honors degree in Visual Communications from the Cork Institute of Technology. He then took a year out to immerse himself into research, experimentation and development of his own style of image making. He feels the result is an approach that unites the expressive nature of fine art with the functional aspect of graphic design.
Paul Delaney’s artwork utilizes mixed media, including collage, pen and ink drawings as well as typography and digital production to create highly graphic imagery. Images are printed onto substrates such as canvas paper or metal, where various art media are then applied to the printed piece. The work is mostly figurative, and the characters that are created in each piece express feelings and attitudes, and often challenge the stereotypical view of beauty.
The bold, dynamic artwork endeavors to always excite and fascinate the eye. It communicates through pose and posture, and likes to leave the subtle themes behind each piece open to the viewer’s own interpretation.
In 2009, Paul Delaney returned to college to study Arts Administration, where he recieved training in curating, picture framing and photography as well as other art gallery skills.
To date, Paul Delaney has exhibited his work in Ireland, England and America in both group and solo shows. His work has appeared in magazines, newspapers and art books, and he is continuing to gain exposure with his bold art prints.
